    Newtown House

We first worked on this Victorian terrace house about 15 years ago. It had had a major addition to it before then; the floorplan was over-complicated so part of our role was to simplify it.

    Points to note

    • Previously, there were two fireplaces in the long wall of the living room. To make sense of this wall, we installed a long, low joinery unit, which incorporates the television and also, in its base, grilles for the reverse cycle air-conditioning unit. This eliminated the need for large grilles in the ceiling.

    • In a previous renovation, the only access to the main bedroom was through a bathroom. We made a corridor out of part of the bathroom and, having no space for a wall, used sliding sheets of white glass to separate the two areas.

    • Traditional steel doors and windows were made by a steel fabricator.
