A renovation to a one-bedroomed apartment in a characterful 1920s building involved installing a new kitchen and bathroom; removing a wall between kitchen and living area; reusing existing furniture and adding to it; reorganising the spaces to give great clarity.
Points to note
• The L-shaped kitchen was difficult to furnish with cupboards. Part of our solution involved incorporating a partially freestanding unit, which makes the room feel more coherent.
• To give a sense of unity to the furniture, the timber of some of the existing pieces was stained darker.
