The 1930s house had had an upper floor added in the 1960s, and a complete renovation around 10 years before we were brought in to, essentially, furnish the place.
Some key points
• The clients were more or less living in the front room – a dining/living area that contained the TV. We moved the TV to a back room, freeing up the front room for socialising and conversation.
• We sourced a unique collection of furniture, but modified some pieces and designed others. We found two Swedish armchairs with slightly Victorian legs – we designed new leg base frames to give them a more contemporary look. To create coffee tables, we made steel bases for two vintage Moroccan trays we had bought ten years earlier.
• We rehung the client’s art – a mix of works inherited from her father plus Aboriginal and contemporary pieces – to make it feel more cohesive and dynamic.
